Director John Ford’s ‘The Searchers’ is a film shot in Valley of The Gods in the 1960s, and it features John Wayne in a role that typifies the character for which he is known – a man of action and few carefully chosen words that are simultaneously straightforward yet profound and deep. John Wayne and his co-star travel from Texas throughout the American West in the years following the American Civil War, in search of captive family members presumed to have survived an Indian raid of their homestead that left the rest of the family savagely murdered. An excellent, dynamic film. One of the best from both John Ford and John Wayne – and the men worked together on films many times.
